End screen time battles. Start better habits.

Screen time, we all know what that is. It’s no secret that electronic devices are taking over, literally replacing valuable time, keeping kids from engaging in family time our outside play. I see kids as young as 10 years old with their own phones or see some sort of gaming system in the hands of children as young as 2. I’ll admit, I’m that mom. My kids have everything. I even gave my son his first phone at 11. Once he hit Junior High he started walking to school, so, I felt it was necessary and I felt safe. Plus, all the other kids have one. It’s been a beautiful disaster to say the least.

I love him having a phone. He could contact me for any reason. In that sense, it’s been a life saver. But, honestly, he spent more time playing on the phone than using it for its purpose. I was in denial that my child had a video game addiction which kept him on his phone at all hours of the night, spent hours on his computer or other gaming device which resulted in his grades dropping. He would run home and rush through his homework which took 5 minutes and spent the rest of the night on some sort of electronic. When that happened, I took away his electronics, and his grades went up. Then I gave him back his electronics for him to only fall back into the trap of addiction and watched as his grades drop once again.  It got so bad to the point where he had nothing which resulted in him sneaking his electronics out of my room and hiding them. If I took one electronic away, he would find another. It was upsetting witness.

I feel like my son is always punished, I feel like I am constantly taking away his electronics and learning nothing.  Two years of this. Two years and I still have not learned my lesson as a mom, two years and my 13-year-old still has not learned to be responsible or even after punishments.

I was done, I’ve had enough. I decided to search the internet for something, anything that can help without me being the bad parent by constantly taking his stuff a way. I wanted to find something that would teach discipline instead of me, a single mom, being the bad guy all the time.

That’s when I found UnGlue.

This intelligent Kid’s App was designed with the idea that parents and children should agree on the right amount of screen time. Then kids decide how they want to spend those precious minutes. The Kid’s App sets a simple schedule, and lets kids know exactly how much Entertainment Time they have left on the clock. The result? Zero surprises, better time management skills and Unglue becomes the bad guy. Not the parent! I could set restricted times, and when their times were up the electronic devices went straight to my room in a drawer. I felt god knowing that if any of them tried to take their devices out of my room at any point without permission, they would not have access. Thanks to Unglue! I also love that the app allows kids to do chores for more time! Yay! Don’t worry kids, all your unused time will be rolled over to the next day. You, the parent decides how much Entertainment Time each kid gets every day, and during what times. No need to worry about limiting this app or that website. Adjust at any time.
